Long-Term Relationships: A Lote Letter to PrimeIT

I don’t have many numbers or statistics, but I have the feeling that our relationships are becoming increasingly short-lived. I know that over 50% of marriages in Portugal end in divorce. I also know that we live immersed in the digital world, constantly scrolling through apps, where everything is at our fingertips, from food delivered in 15 minutes, without needing to cook or go shopping, to following the lives of friends and acquaintances through photos, as if we knew everything about them.

At work, we accelerate and automate (and rightly so). An email, a presentation, or even a feature in an application can now be developed much faster with the help of artificial intelligence, saving time that we can invest in more creative tasks. Often, we also assume that a remote meeting or interview will save time in our schedule, forgetting the connection created when meeting face to face. Everything has become faster, and with that, our impatience has grown. Our brains are increasingly driven by immediate reward.

I have been working at PrimeIT for 5 years and have been part of this group for 9. I have seen a bit of everything, the best and the worst, in different contexts and with different people. I have seen people stay only a few months with us, and I also see the example of those who were here before me and remain to this day. Did everything always go perfectly for them? Were they always top performers? Did they always earn what they considered fair? Were they never tempted away by attractive offers? Did they always get along with everyone they worked with?

I would say no. I don’t have statistics or numbers, but I would venture that, just like me, all these questions have likely had a negative answer at some point in the career of each of these people at PrimeIT.

Of course, this discussion is much bigger than this article. Not all relationships last forever, and sometimes it makes perfect sense to change jobs. Still, what I observe is that we live at such a fast pace that no one waits for anyone. Technology evolves ever faster, and with so much urgency and so many demands, we do not always know how to stop, reflect, and consider what is truly best for us.

Often, immediate pleasure seems more appealing, and an argument on a bad day can make us more impulsive. Other times, the image of the unknown seems more attractive than the raw reality we face each day. Sometimes, we even feel that we are too well known and need a fresh start, without history or baggage.

To this day, it has always made sense for me to stay at PrimeIT, and never because I thought the company was perfect. One of the biggest factors is the team I work with daily: a team that challenges me, grows with and without me, makes me laugh in tense moments, and teaches me new things every day. Another factor is the leadership that inspires me, provides tools to grow, and challenges me when it recognises the right moment.

Finally, working in the technology sector and in consultancy is, in itself, extremely challenging, both because of the constant need for learning and updating, and because all our work revolves around people, their wishes, desires, and needs. The common denominator across all these factors is simple and clear: people, teams, and clients.

I greatly enjoy the challenges inherent in what we do every day, and working at PrimeIT has been, without a doubt, rewarding. In a world where long-term relationships seem increasingly difficult to maintain, it is always worth pausing to review the full picture, recognise all that we have achieved, and dream of all that is still to come. Choosing to be in a relationship, professional or personal, is choosing to grow with that company or person. And I have chosen to grow with PrimeIT.
