One of the most important criteria when defining a good company is how they invest on their employees. A company that helps you grow and strengthen ns your knowledge in several areas is a company that cares about your career path.

Nowadays, education at work plays a great part on the selection of a company or career. Studies show that 9 out of 10 people say they consider professional continuous training, one of the most important characteristics when selecting a career. Other investigations show that new generations (Millennials and Gen Z) value training and teaching so much that 27% of people that belong to these age ranges, leave the companies that don’t offer professional continuous training at their workplace.

 

Our mission

Prime Academy is an internal training program made available by PrimeIT to its employees. We offer over 900 hours of training yearly, in several areas that encompass several themes. From German to photoshop, we have options to all our Primer’s preferences and requirements.

Our biggest challenge when planning the selection of each Prime course is our demand for perfection. We feel that when we carry out the proposed timeline, correspond to the expectation of our participants and manage to integrate all the fundamental topics, we can offer our employees all that they deserve.

The Prime selection processes

The yearly selection of the courses is based on 3 aspects: For the first one a survey about the training needs is done with our employees, so they can each name the areas in which they would like to improve and suggest new courses for Prime Academy.

The second aspect is based on the ongoing projects for each area. If there are a lot of projects per area, the need for more courses in those areas is bigger.

The third aspect regards the market changes and the arising technologies. This way, we can anticipate our Primer’s needs and train them in areas that may have a big impact on the IT market.

We split our courses by levels so that they suit the knowledges of each employee. This way, all Primers have the opportunity to participate, despite their level of knowledge about the subject, whether it is beginner, medium or advanced.

We distribute the courses in a balanced way, throughout the year according to the projects and needs they entail. This way we can have, in the same month, a course of technical skills (hard skills), a behaviour course (soft skills) and a language course, allowing the Primers a continuous evolution in these 3 areas.

We challenged the pandemic

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic we adapted to the difficulties and transformed our courses. We adopted the full remote model and after a lot of planning and organizing we managed to get the positive feedback from our Primers that we wanted.

Cristiana Robalo, head of Prime Academy states that “the goal is to continue like this, for now. The separation between Lisbon and Porto no longer exists, which allows for a bigger offer in courses to all consultants because everyone can participate without exception.

We feel that, for now, our consultants are happy with this online model despite “considering that sometimes they would be able to absorb more knowledge on site, namely on the behaviour course”, according to Cristiana.

However, the advantages of the online model have a higher impact on this decision. According to the head of the Academy “one of the advantages also mentioned is the fact there isn’t any time loss with trips to the office. All courses are after work hours and the truth is that it ended up being tiring for consultants to have to move after work.”
